Custom Irregular-Shaped Steel Mold

Specialty Precast Concrete Formwork Product Brochure

1. Product Overview

The Custom Irregular-Shaped Steel Mold, also known as Specialty Steel Formwork, is a fully customized non-standard steel mold developed for prefabricated construction, municipal engineering, highway, and rail transit industries. Designed through forward or reverse engineering based on customer-supplied 3D models, 2D drawings, or physical samples, it undergoes structural analysis and mold split design before being manufactured from high-strength steel via CNC cutting, precision welding, machining, and surface treatment processes.

Its core mission is to transform complex component requirements into repeatable precision-forming tooling. Whether for irregular precast element profiles, complex joint configurations, or non-standard shapes for special operating conditions, this mold enables accurate pouring and forming of concrete and other materials. It serves as critical process equipment bridging design intent and physical components across PC plants, segment factories, bridge prefabrication yards, and heavy manufacturing scenarios.

3. Product Usage Instructions

3.1 Receiving & Acceptance

  • Upon delivery, verify dimensions, weld quality, surface treatment, and accessory completeness against the design drawings.
  • Conduct a dry fit to confirm assembly accuracy and the fit of locating pins and bolts.

3.2 Installation & Positioning

  • Position the mold on the casting bed or production line. Calibrate levelness ≤2mm/m and verticality using levels and total stations.
  • Secure the mold with anchor bolts, magnetic bases, or welded stops to prevent displacement during pouring.

3.3 Release Agent Application

  • Select a water-based, oil-based, or emulsion release agent compatible with the concrete mix.
  • Spray evenly on the cavity surface, ensuring full coverage at corners and grooves with no missed areas.

3.4 Rebar & Embedded Parts Placement

  • Place the rebar cage, embedded sleeves, lifting points, and connectors per design coordinates.
  • Secure precisely using the mold's locating holes, positioning pins, and magnetic clamps.

3.5 Concrete Pouring & Curing

  • Pour in layers not exceeding 500mm per layer, using internal and external vibrators for full compaction.
  • Follow specified steam or ambient curing regimes. Demold when concrete strength reaches ≥75% of design strength.

3.6 Demolding & Cleaning

  • Follow the sequence: loosen accessories → remove connections → separate mold body. Violent prying is strictly prohibited.
  • Immediately remove concrete residue after demolding. Inspect for damage and repair by welding, grinding, or repainting as needed.

3.7 Storage & Maintenance

  • Store on a dry, level surface. Use sleepers under heavy molds to prevent deformation.
  • For long-term storage, apply anti-rust oil and cover with weatherproof tarpaulins. Maintain a mold usage log and schedule periodic inspections.

4. Application Scenarios

  • Prefabricated PC Components: Special-shaped facade panels, curved balconies, spiral staircases, and non-standard wall panels with complex window and door openings.
  • Municipal & Highway Engineering: Custom curbs, crash barriers, bridge expansion joint embedments, and box culvert corner segments.
  • Rail Transit: Subway platform screen door frames, track slab chair grooves, and tunnel segment connection molds.
  • Water Conservancy: Sluice gate slots, spillway liner forms, and ecological slope protection blocks.
  • Energy & Industrial: Wind turbine foundation ring molds, nuclear power embedded part forms, and boiler base irregular components.
  • Landscape & Public Art: Custom benches, sculpture bases, water feature elements, and other bespoke urban furnishings.

5. Safety Precautions

  • Design Safety: All irregular molds undergo Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to confirm stresses and deformations remain within allowable limits under the most unfavorable load combinations.
  • Lifting Safety: Irregular shapes often have offset centers of gravity. Determine lifting points via CG calculation, use balance beams and special rigging, and never lift at a single off-center point or angle.
  • Welding Safety: Welding must be performed by certified welders with fire blankets and extinguishers on site. Ventilate enclosed cavities before welding to prevent hazardous gas accumulation.
  • Operational Safety: Set up warning zones during assembly and disassembly. Ensure hydraulic lines are leak-free. Avoid prolonged skin contact with hot metal surfaces.
  • Maintenance Safety: Periodically inspect welds with UT/MT testing, bolt pre-tension, and positioning accuracy. Immediately take out of service and repair if cracks, bulging, or severe corrosion are found.
  • Storage Safety: Irregular molds must be stacked on dedicated racks or blocks to ensure stable center of gravity. Outdoor storage requires rainproof, moisture-proof, and anti-corrosion measures.
